| Fishing in the Woodstock Area
The third Saturday in April heralds in the fishing season in the cold spring waters surrounding the Woodstock Area. You'll need a fishing licence which can easily be obtained at F. H. Gillingham & Sons
You'll find Brook Trout, Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout in the waters of the Kedron Brook right in the center of the village. Or venture over to the Woodstock Recreation Center and perch yourself amongst the rocks to enjoy a day of fishing while close to all Woodstock has to offer.
If you want to get off the beaten path a bit, travel east on Route 4 past the Taftsville Covered Bridge and Dam. You'll find some good fishing in the Ottauquechee as it meanders through the hills to the Quechee Gorge. If you don't mind the half mile hike into the Gorge, you'll find rushing waters with a view of the hundred year old railroad bridge spanning the "Grand Canyon of the North East".
You could also enjoy plent of fishing along the White River from Bethel to Hartford. Signs may have some of the riverfront posted so please be respectful of private property. Most of the locals fish to eat, but be aware that bass have to be released up until June 10. There is a limit on the size of bass and wall-eye, but you can count on some tasty eating from any of Central Vermont's sparkling clear waters. Look for trout in local restaurants on the menu. Much of it is caught locally and brought fresh to your table. Fishing in a meditation of sorts while you're doing something wonderfully enjoyable!
