Springtime in Woodstock

ANTIQUES | ARTS/ARTISANS | BIKING | SWIMMING & PADDLING | FISHING | HIKING | TOURING

Spring begins in Woodstock when the sap begins to run from our famous Vermont Sugar Maple trees. Visit a sugar house in Woodstock and find out why it takes 40 gallons of sap to make a gallon of Vermont Gold! You can sample the different delicious grades of syrup and decide which to bring home for your friends and family.

The second sign of spring in our area is seeing the rushing waters from the runoff of the snows of winter and then sighting people in high waders trout fishing in the Ottauquechee River!

Memorial Day Weekend opens many doors to spring time activities in the area. The Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historic Park, the only National Park in Vermont, opens for the season. If you have never seen sheep being sheared or would love to see a beautiful working 19th century Vermont farm, then visit The Billings Farm & Museum for their annual Sheep Shearing Weekend.

View the annual Memorial Day parade as it marches around the Green, and then, before following the Civil War soldiers back to the Woodstock Historical Society for a reenactment, talk with the owners of the antique automobiles displayed on the Green, or stop at the Woodstock Garden Club's annual incredible plant sale. Explore the many fabulous art and artisan galleries in Woodstock and then tour our scenic back roads and enjoy the annual Vermont Open Studio Weekend, where craftspeople open their studios to the public to view the production of their craft. And don't miss VINS to see the release of a raptor that has been rehabilitated on their Raptor Appreciation Day.

And if you want to see one of the best half marathons, not just in Vermont but anywhere, then be in Woodstock the first weekend in June for the Covered Bridges Half Marathon. Everyone--cheerleaders, bagpipers, barbershoppers, bands, all types of music groups--come out to cheer the runners on, it is one fun party!

Spring is about beautiful color, lots of activity, the beginning of the Wedding season and looking forward to summer!
