Summer Vacation Time in Woodstock
On warm summer days there is something exciting to do everyday in Woodstock!
The Ottauquechee River runs through the village with water entertainment right at your feet. Wade in the river while eating an ice cream cone from the local creamery, or be brave and take a swing on a rope out over the river. One of the most popular bike rides in all of Vermont is the ride along the scenic road that follows the river from Woodstock to Quechee. Hiking abounds in the area for all levels of hiker: the National Park offers many trails and a wonderful view of the area, the Appalachian Trail circles our area so you can easily do day or overnight hiking, the Long Trail is also nearby to challenge you, and the incredible State Parks are fun for swimming. And for the very fit, you can compete in the Vermont 100 mile road race as a runner or a horseback rider!
Festivals and activities abound in the area in the summer! Come to Woodstock's Antique Weekend where you can see antique cars on the Green, find rare books at the Annual Vermont Antiquarian Booksellers Book Fair, and The Billings Farm & Museum's Antique Tractor Day. VINS has trails to the gorge, many special events all summer, and live raptor shows every day. And for an incredible bargain attend the annual St. James Fair in July. There are many fabulous music, craft, food, Celtic, Scottish festivals in our area. There's even an annual World's Fair!
Every Thursday at noon bring your lunch and blanket to the Village Green for Woodstock's The Pentangle Council on the Arts Brown Bag Concert Series. All summer, actually all year long, Pentangle offers world class entertainment; spectacular live music, shows, movies and dance.
And check out our Events Calendar for one of our renowned local church or village suppers! Delicious old-fashioned and homemade Strawberry, Pasta, Oyster or Harvest suppers are the stuff that dreams are made of. Get your tickets early because they are gobbled up quickly!
