Sleigh Rides

Enjoying the ambiance of New England in winter has to include a sleigh ride. Your family can enjoy first-hand the primary form of transportation used by Vermonters right up until the mid-twentieth century. At the Billings Farm & Museum on the winter vacation weekends: Martin Luther King weekend in January and President's weekend in February, the farm offers short ride through the fields with the purchase of any ticket to the farm.

Their beautiful matched teams of Percherons can be hired with sleigh and driver for longer rides any day of the week, except holiday weekends, throughout the winter season with 24 hour notice. Daisy and Purse or Jim and Joe will take you down to the banks of the Ottauquechee, enjoying the serenity of this special season, snow permitting. In Woodstock, you can travel back in time enjoying a pace of life little known to the twenty-first century while enjoying one of the premier travel destinations.

Sledding

At any age, you can still enjoy the thrill of speeding down a snowy slope. Mt. Tom in Woodstock provides a delightful, sunny place to sled. Just head north on Route 12 past the Billings Farm & Museum. About half a mile on your left you'll see the sledding hill. Park on your right and be careful crossing the street. On a sunny day, you'll see lots of people enjoying this spot. If you need to rent sleds, stop by Woodstock Sports and Fine Clothing on Central Street or puchase one at F. H. Gillingham & Sons or the Woodstock Ski Touring Center. Many of our local hardware stores offer tubes or dishes to sell as well.
