SUMMARY:Lyle Brewer in Concert
DESCRIPTION:Lyle Brewer is a virtuoso guitarist whose unique sound blends jazz\, classical\, folk\, and blues influences. An integral part of the Boston music scene for well over a decade\, he’s earned a reputation as one of today’s most versatile and expressive guitarists.\n\n\n\nWhether performing solo or with renowned artists such as Lake Street Dive\, the Barr Brothers\, Ryan Montbleau\, Neighbor\, or Lori McKenna\, Brewer never fails to captivate audiences with his technical mastery and emotional depth. A graduate of the prestigious New England Conservatory\, Brewer’s acclaimed solo albums – Juno (2018)\, Get it Together (2018)\, Graphics (2019)\, and Hold On (2020) – demonstrate his dedication to exploring the guitar‘s full sonic range. His performances combine intricate fingerstyle techniques with lyrical phrasing\, creating an exclusively instrumental (“If I sang\, I wouldn’t have too much of a career\,” he quips) experience that feels both modern and timeless. What Lyle lacks in vocal chops he more than makes up for with staggering technical ability and often jaw-dropping dexterity.

SUMMARY:Author Event: Emily Franklin - Love & Other Monsters
DESCRIPTION:Join us in welcoming Emily Franklin\, acclaimed author of The Lioness of Boston\, a novel based on the life of trailblazer Isabella Stewart Gardner. She will speak at the Norman Williams Public Library on Tuesday\, November 10\, at 6 pm\, about her new book\, Love & Other Monsters\, a story of love\, lust\, art\, and betrayal.  Co-hosted by the Yankee Bookshop\, this event is free and open to all. \n\n\n\nSet in the scandalous summer of 1816\, eighteen-year-old Claire Clairmont – Mary Shelley’s stepsister and Lord Byron’s lover – changed the course of literature forever…  Relevant to our current times\, this historical novel explores the origin story of Frankenstein\, a reckoning of sisters\, survival\, and the creation of monsters: both those on the page and those who walk among us.  \n\n\n\nEmily Franklin is a bestselling author of twenty-five books; her writing has been published in numerous newspapers and journals. She grew up half in the UK and half in Boston\, where she now lives with her spouse and four children. \n\n\n\n+++ \n\n\n\n“A rare literary achievement with prose as beautiful as a painting and a story that is propulsively page-turning. I could not put down this thought-provoking\, poignant\, well-researched yet wholly original novel.” – Jennifer Rosner\, author of Once We Were Home

SUMMARY:Matt Flinner Trio
DESCRIPTION:“Deeply Rooted New Acoustic Music”\n\n\n\nIn 2006\, three musical pals decided to get together to play a few gigs; since then\, the Matt Flinner Trio has been exploring new pathways and setting new standards for the bluegrass trio sound all around the U.S. and Europe. \n\n\n\nMandolinist Matt Flinner\, guitarist Ross Martin and bassist Eric Thorin cover a wide variety of musical styles—all with the common ground of American roots music. Bluegrass\, jazz and old-time music are all present here in their ways\, along with a dose of classical chamber music composition and arrangement\, as the members all draw from their wide array of musical loves\, experiences and influences. These influences boil down into the trio’s own organic sound of New Acoustic music\, or Modern String Band music\, or Chamber Grass (music is getting harder and harder to label these days\, isn’t it?). Whatever label you put on it\, it is guaranteed to be fresh and original\, and definitely something you’ve never quite heard before.

SUMMARY:Ethan Tapper | The Forest Year: Finding Hope in a World Worth Saving
DESCRIPTION:Ethan Tapper knows what it means to care for a forest ecosystem. In his new book\, The Forest Year: Finding Hope in a World Worth Saving\, he explores the practices of staying\, caretaking\, and paying attention. \n\n\n\nNorman Williams Public Library is excited to welcome the author back to Woodstock on Friday\, November 20\, at 4 pm. Yankee Bookshop co-hosts this event and will have copies of How to Love a Forest: The Bittersweet Work of Tending a Changing World and his new book on hand. \n\n\n\nTapper writes not as an armchair philosopher or an academic\, but as a working forester and ecologist stewarding real forests in real time\, blending emotional insight with ecological rigor. He shares how he perceives the beautiful interconnectedness of flowers\, birds\, fungi\, and trees; how each is part of a living\, breathing whole; and how tending the land is a way of tending ourselves. \n\n\n\nEthan Tapper is an award-winning forester\, ecologist\, digital storyteller\, and author. He works\, writes\, hunts\, birds\, and runs a small consulting forestry business from Bear Island – his 175-acre working forest\, homestead\, orchard\, and sugarbush in Bolton\, Vermont\, just north of Camel’s Hump – and plays in a punk band.

SUMMARY:Album Release Performance with Matthew Madan & Friends
DESCRIPTION:Twenty years in the making—Matthew Madan returns to the stage with old favorites\, new songs\, and a few musical friends.\n\n\n\nMatthew Madan has been playing blues harmonica and guitar\, and writing songs for nearly five decades. Since moving to Vermont in 1987 and homesteading on a hilltop in Topsham with his wife Anna and their two children\, he’s been writing and playing songs about nature\, love\, and the human condition. When not playing original music\, he’s interpreting blues classics on guitar while accompanying himself on harmonica. His songs range from tender and emotive to foot-stomping and raucous. \n\n\n\nThis past year Madan teamed up with old friend Sam Whedon\, a multi-instrumentalist and recording engineer based in NY State. Madan recorded ten tracks at Sam’s studio\, with Whedon adding instrumentation and production to create the album “Happiness\,” released to streaming in February of this year.  \n\n\n\nHaving taken a hiatus from music to teach English for 20 years\, this is Madan’s first solo show in two decades and will be a celebration of his original songs both old and new. He is very lucky to have Sam joining him at Artistree to help recreate the album\, as well as contribute to debuting new material. Also playing will be bassist Joe Letter and drummer Tom Leeman\, both of whom play with Madan in the band configurations of Cousin Freddy and the Sap Buckets\, and Thirsty Work. And don’t be surprised to see other musical guests.

DESCRIPTION:Give thanks\, share traditions\, and learn together. Step back in time and explore a traditional Victorian-era Thanksgiving. Visit the Historic Farmhouse to see\, smell\, and taste foods inspired by an 1890s Thanksgiving table\, and roll up your sleeves in the Learning Kitchen to make and sample homemade pie crust. Try your hand at a wool weaving craft and discover skills that helped farm families prepare for winter. Younger visitors won’t want to miss the sensory play stations designed just for them. This festive weekend is filled with history\, hands-on activities\, and seasonal fun for all ages.
