1. Horse-Drawn Carriage Rides
Schedule a private ride with Kedron Valley Stables for parties large and small for a 45-minute jaunt through the scenic countryside of South Woodstock Village or cozy up for a narrated wagon ride at Billings Farm & Museum during their Autumn Wagon Ride Weekend (October 13-14). You can also nab a seat on horse-drawn hayrides during Killington’s Harvest Faire on October 6.

2. ATV Tours
Get your blood pumping with a rugged ATV/UTV adventure through the Killington Mountains. You’ll traverse wooded trails overlooking spectacular waterways, wildlife, and towns nestled in spectacular fall foliage during guided one and two-hour tours. Click here for more information.

3. Scenic Chairlift/Gondola Rides
Head to Suicide Six to get a jaw-dropping mountaintop view of local foliage with roundtrip chairlift rides Friday through Sunday – or ride to the peak of Vermont’s second tallest mountain with Killington’s gondola rides (operating daily September 29 – October 14).

4. Fishing
The Upper Valley is a fisherman’s paradise. Stay close to town and cast your reel in the Woodstock area’s Ottauquechee River, take a boat out on the placid waters of Barnard’s Silver Lake, enjoy the privacy of The Meccawe Club (no license required) or even wade into the Connecticut River – either way, you’ll catch fabulous autumnal foliage and maybe even a fish or two! But be sure to buy your fishing license before embarking on your trip.

5. Hot Air Balloon Rides
Go up, up, and away in a hot air balloon ride for the most panoramic leaf peeping option on our list! With a maximum of four passengers, you’ll take off from the Quechee Village Green and become lighter than air, following a flight path unique to your trip. And in true autumnal spirit, you can even ride in a jack-o’-lantern balloon!
