1. Horse-Drawn Carriage Rides

Schedule a private ride with Kedron Valley Stables for parties large and small for a 45-minute jaunt through the scenic countryside of South Woodstock Village or cozy up for a narrated wagon ride at Billings Farm & Museum during their Wagon Ride Wednesdays (through September 18, 2019) Autumn Wagon Ride Weekend (October 5-6, 2019).

You’ll traverse wooded trails overlooking spectacular waterways, wildlife, and towns nestled in spectacular fall foliage during guided one and two-hour tours. Click here for more information.

3. Scenic Chairlift/Gondola Rides

Head to Suicide Six to get a jaw-dropping mountaintop view of local foliage with roundtrip chairlift rides Friday through Sunday – or ride to the peak of Vermont’s second tallest mountain with Killington’s gondola rides (operating daily September 2 – October 14).

4. Fishing

The Upper Valley is a fisherman’s paradise. Stay close to town and cast your reel in the Woodstock area’s Ottauquechee River, take a boat out on the placid waters of Barnard’s Silver Lake, enjoy the privacy of The Meccawe Club (no license required) or even wade into the Connecticut River – either way, you’ll catch fabulous autumnal foliage and maybe even a fish or two! But be sure to buy your fishing license before embarking on your trip.

Want a ladies-only experience? Then reserve your spot at She Casts, a women's fly fishing weekend September 28-29, 2019 helmed by resident guide, Chandra Anderson and an Orvis-endorsed team that'll take you to scenic Suicide Six and surrounding waters at the peak of fall foliage.

Or to set your own downhill pace, get the dirt on Suicide Six Bike Park, open most weekends through mid-October, then head on over to our list of 5 essential mountain biking spots.

6. Hot Air Balloon Rides

Go up, up, and away in a hot air balloon ride for the most panoramic leaf peeping option on our list! With a maximum of four passengers, you’ll take off from the Quechee Village Green and become lighter than air, following a flight path unique to your trip. And in true autumnal spirit, you can even ride in a jack-o’-lantern balloon!
