For the Animal-Lovers

It’s time to kiss a cow! Billings Farm & Museum, located right in Woodstock is one of the country’s best educational farms. Their fully operational dairy program teaches you the process of milking and beyond and their museum takes you back in time to learn about the history of Vermont’s agriculture. Petting the friendly cows and other animals is sure to be the highlight of your visit!

Ready for something wilder? The Vermont Institute of Natural Science (VINS) allows you to get up close to raptors like eagles, owls, and falcons! Learn about the similarities we can find between birds and dinosaur skeletons and then head inside to their reptile room to see snakes and turtles. From the adventurous forest canopy walk to the amazing animals, there is so much winter fun to have at VINS.

Snowsport Options

For those who want to reach a mountain top or explore a snowy trail at their own pace, snowshoeing is the winter sport for you! Two of our favorites winter hiking spots are Mt. Peg and Mt. Tom, they’re right in the village and lead to sweeping views of the valley. Trail passes and snowshoe rentals are available at the Woodstock Nordic Center, or bring your own equipment and explore other local networks at no cost!

Ready to slide & glide? Ice skating is another classic winter sport that we love. Indoor skating is available at our local Union Arena, they offer public skate times, pick-up hockey, and skate rentals. Outdoor skating is offered at a man-made rink right in Woodstock at Vail Field or down the road in Barnard at Silver Lake.
