Events Lafayette Bicentennial Celebration

Date
On Saturday, June 28—exactly 200 years after Lafayette's historic visit to Woodstock—we invite the public to join in celebrating Lafayette’s service to our nation and his enduring commitment to human rights.
Festivities begin at 11:00 a.m. on the front lawn of the Woodstock History Center at 26 Elm Street. The Daughters of the American Revolution and the History Center will host a commemorative program, including brief remarks based on the 1825 exchange between Lafayette and Woodstock’s Titus Hutchinson. There will also be an interactive Q&A session with “Lafayette,” hands-on crafts for children and the young at heart, a pop-up exhibit, and historic treats to enjoy.
At 11:45 a.m., “Lafayette” will proceed to the nearby Congregational Church, where he will greet guests and participate in a presentation by Preston Bristow on the Church’s historic Revere bell and other notable architectural features.
A self-guided walking tour brochure, tracing Lafayette’s path through Woodstock, will be available at the History Center, which will also open its museum free of charge from 12:00 noon. to 4:00 p.m. Visitors can explore exhibits of local art, furniture, clothing, toys, and more.
All events are free and open to the public.
